The Cruel Irony of Fate and the ill-fated first love - Chapter 1: The first meeting

We have all had that moment or moments in our lives when we wanted time to stop. Wherein we are so enthralled with happiness that we just want to stay in that moment for the rest of forever.

August 2004
Crossroads, Cebu City.

A teenage boy, in his freshman year of college, is just starting to come to terms with growing up. After adjusting to a new school he started to make friends. He was this fun, outgoing boy who was nothing but excited to see what college life had to offer. He was enjoying his new life as a college student and was making friends here and there. One day, as he was at a coffee shop he stumbled upon a girl; (older by 2 years) and he started to strike up a conversation. Her name is Yvette, they hit it off pretty quickly and became fast friends.

One Saturday night, Yvette invited the boy together with her cousin and her younger sister and they decided to go to one of Cebu's premiere nightclubs back in the day. As they entered the club, they decided to get a table near the DJ's booth and ordered a few bottles of beer to get the night started. Moments later, he noticed something that caught his attention. A handsome, tall, slender young man in his early twenties dancing in the middle of the dance floor with his friends. The young man was attractive and had a cute little piercing on his right eyebrow. He wanted nothing more than to go up to that young man and introduce himself but he was too shy to do so, not knowing if the young man was also gay like him. As the night went on, the boy decided to go out for a cigarette (Yes, he was already smoking at the time and it's a terrible habit that has been with him for the past 16 years!). As he went on with a couple of puffs, he decided to go to the neighboring bar (Which was full of gay people at the time) and decided to check the crowd, to his surprise, the young man was there.

As the boy ordered a beer at the other beer, he kept on glancing in the young man's direction, he was holding a bottle of San mig light in his hands as he was talking to his friends. The boy ordered a red horse and tried to be coy as he possibly can, not wanting to make it obvious that he was staring. As the night turned to dawn, the boy ended up outside the other club where his friends were and started to light another cigarette, in the same area there was this full-figured white girl standing at one of the tables and she was with the young man. As the boy continued to steal glances at the young man the white girl approached him and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Jamie. What's your name?" "My name is Josh" the boy responded. "Is it okay If I introduced you to my friend?" Jamie asks. "Of course" Josh replied. Then they walked towards the table where the young man was, "Josh, this is my friend James" Jaime said. Then the young man stretched out his right hand and said "Hi Josh, nice to meet you" "Hello James, nice to meet you too" Josh replied. A big smile was painted on the boy's face as he never thought that the guy he was eyeing the whole night was interested in knowing him too.

"Okay, I'm gonna leave you guys to talk" Jamie uttered. Both replied with big smiles on their faces "Alright". As they started off their conversation, they started to get to know each other. The boy later found out that the young man was a graphic artist and is working for an international company situated in midtown Cebu.

As the dawn breaks, both of them did not realize that the sun was already rising as they both had such a good time getting to know each other wherein time stopped and it didn't matter.
